What is Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and what can it do for me?
Here’s how Wikipedia defines it:
Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) is a controversial approach to psychotherapy and organizational change based on “a model of interpersonal communication chiefly concerned with the relationship between successful patterns of behaviour and the subjective experiences (esp. patterns of thought) underlying them” and “a system of alternative therapy based on this which seeks to educate people in self-awareness and effective communication, and to change their patterns of mental and emotional behaviour”.The term “Neuro-Linguistic Programming” refers to a stated connection between the neurological processes (“neuro”), language (“linguistic”) and behavioral patterns that have been learned through experience (“programming”) and can be organized to achieve specific goals in life.
Wikipedia goes on to summarise NLP as “a ‘science of excellence’, applied within management training, life coaching, alternative medicine, large group awareness training, and the self-help industry.”
Essentially it has evolved from the study, theories and practical applications of techniques compiled by some very clever people, including: Richard Bandler, John Grinder, Virginia Satir, Fritz Perls and Milton Erickson, to name but a few.
The CEO of the Club Red International Coaching Institute, Antony D Inman completed his NLP Practitioner Training in Perth, under the guidance of NLP Masters -George Faddoul of Woolongong, Australia and Dr Matthew James from Hawaii, USA.
Tony Inman then went on to become a Master Practitioner of NLP, studying this time in Sydney under expert trainers George Faddoul (again) and Nick Leforce from California, USA.
Tony has now attained the level of Certified Trainer of Neuro Linguistic Programming and will be running short workshops on an ‘Introduction to NLP and its Practical Application in Sales and Management’ in 2012.
At the Sydney course in July 2011, someone said to George Faddoul that they found it really hard to define NLP when people asked about it.
George Faddoul defined NLP simply as “success coaching”.
Club Red’s Tony Inman has also studied much of the work of Coach Tony Robbins, who evolved his own brand of NLP, which he calls ‘Neuro Associative Conditioning’ (NAC).
A lot of NLP and NAC’s roots stem from gestalt therapy and behavioual science.
Tony Inman has been an avid student of success principles and personal development throughout his entire management career.
“As I reached Perth Airport, Sydney-bound for my NLP Masters Course, my taxi driver wished me “Good luck with your flaky course!”, which I feel is because I hadn’t defined it well enough for him. For one thing thing though, he had told me there would be no parking spaces at all in the drop off zone. I said that I knew there would be one, and lo and behold there it was, right where I had visualised it to be!
By the time he’d told me all of his family problems on the way to the airport, I sure knew that this guy could really benefit from an NLP course!”
